Bandwidth

Definition

Bandwidth quantifies the maximum rate of data transfer across a given path.

Bandwidth represents the capacity of a communication channel to transmit data. It is typically measured in bits per second (bps), kilobits per second (Kbps), megabits per second (Mbps), or gigabits per second (Gbps). A higher bandwidth indicates that more data can be sent or received within a specific timeframe.

For instance, a download that takes minutes on a high-bandwidth connection might take hours on a low-bandwidth one.

This term is frequently encountered in the fields of networking, telecommunications, and internet service provision.
