Internet of Things
Definition
The Internet of Things (IoT) is a network of physical objects that are embedded with sensors, software, and other technologies for the purpose of connecting and exchanging data with other devices and systems over the internet.
This concept describes the extension of internet connectivity to physical devices and everyday objects. These "things" are equipped with components that allow them to collect and send data, as well as sometimes receive instructions, without direct human-to-computer interaction. The embedded technology enables these objects to communicate with each other and with central systems, creating a vast interconnected environment. This allows for automated processes, remote monitoring, and data collection that can lead to informed decision-making. For example, smart thermostats that can be controlled remotely via a smartphone are an application of IoT. The term is commonly used in contexts such as smart home automation, industrial control systems, healthcare monitoring, and intelligent transportation.
