Bengaluru city police have arrested five individuals, including one woman, in connection with the alleged rape of a 24-year-old woman in the HSR Layout area. The incident reportedly took place on the night of June 19, 2024, after the victim was lured to a private office space under the pretext of attending a "belated birthday party."

The arrested individuals have been identified as Darshan (28), Karthik (28), Vijay (24), Sachin (24), and Arpita (23). All five are currently in police custody as the investigation proceeds.

The alleged incident unfolded when the 24-year-old victim, an employee of a private firm, was invited to a birthday celebration for one of the accused, Karthik. The victim attended the gathering with a friend. According to preliminary reports, the victim's friend departed the party earlier in the evening. The victim subsequently reported being offered a drink, after which she felt dizzy. The alleged assault then occurred at the premises.

Upon regaining consciousness, the woman managed to leave the location in an auto-rickshaw. She subsequently contacted a friend and her family, sharing details of the alleged ordeal. Following counselling from her family, the victim filed a formal complaint with the HSR Layout police.

  • Victim's Connection to Accused: The victim reportedly knew some of the arrested individuals as former colleagues. Arpita, one of the accused, was described as a friend of the victim.
  • Police Charges: Based on the victim's complaint, HSR Layout police registered a case under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). These include Section 376 (Rape), Section 376D (Gang Rape), and Section 120B (Criminal Conspiracy).
  • Medical and Legal Proceedings: The victim underwent a medical examination as part of the investigative process. Bengaluru Police Commissioner B Dayananda confirmed the arrests of all five individuals implicated in the case.

The HSR Layout police are continuing their investigation into the matter, gathering further evidence and statements. The accused remain in custody, and legal proceedings are underway.
