The Indian Cabinet has recently approved a significant outlay of Rs 24,815 crore for nine multi-tracking rail projects across the country. These infrastructure developments are set to collectively expand the national railway network by 601 kilometers, primarily benefiting regions in Uttar Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh, alongside seven other states. This initiative underscores a sustained governmental focus on enhancing national rail connectivity, improving capacity, and modernizing India's crucial transport backbone.

The newly sanctioned projects are strategically designed to address the escalating demand on the country's rail infrastructure, alleviate congestion on existing high-traffic corridors, and significantly improve operational efficiency. The substantial financial commitment of Rs 24,815 crore encompasses not only the core construction but also land acquisition, electrification, signaling systems, and other associated expenditures required for comprehensive project implementation. These nine projects will be executed across a total of nine states, with a substantial portion of the new infrastructure designated for Uttar Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh. Other states expected to benefit from these critical capacity augmentation initiatives include Bihar, Maharashtra, Telangana, Gujarat, Odisha, Jharkhand, and West Bengal. The expansion primarily involves the construction of third and fourth lines on existing busy routes, as well as the doubling of single-line sections.
