Decomposed Body of Suspected Jaish-e-Mohammad Terrorist, M4 Rifle Found in Doda
Security forces in Jammu and Kashmir's Doda district recovered the decomposed body of a suspected terrorist, identified as a Pakistani national and alleged member of the Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) outfit, on June 19. The discovery, made in the general area of Gandoh, also led to the recovery of a significant cache of arms and ammunition, including an M4 carbine rifle.
The discovery follows intensive search operations conducted by the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police in the high-altitude forest areas of the Khasodi-Chanchlo forest belt. The body was identified on June 21 as Mohd Maaz, a Pakistani national linked to the proscribed Jaish-e-Mohammad terrorist group. This recovery is a key development in the ongoing efforts by security agencies to neutralize terrorist presence in the region, particularly after a recent encounter.
The finding of the body and associated weaponry is considered a major success in disrupting terrorist networks operating in Doda. The M4 carbine rifle, often associated with specific terrorist groups, highlights the nature of the threat being addressed by security forces. The operation reflects sustained pressure on militant groups, especially in the wake of renewed terrorist activities in the Doda district since 2023.
Details of the recovery include:
- The decomposed body of Mohd Maaz, identified as a Pakistani national.
- One M4 carbine rifle.
- Four M4 magazines.
- 210 rounds of ammunition for the M4 carbine.
- One Chinese pistol.
- Two magazines for the Chinese pistol.
- 15 rounds of ammunition for the Chinese pistol.
- One pouch.
- One Under Barrel Grenade Launcher (UBGL) grenade.
- Additional war-like stores.
Security forces had been actively tracking a group of terrorists following an encounter in the Chattagala area between June 12 and June 13, which resulted in injuries to two security personnel. The current discovery is believed to be linked to that operation, suggesting a sustained pursuit of the militants.
Forensic examination of the recovered items and further investigation into the deceased individual's network are underway. Search operations across the expansive forest areas of Doda district remain ongoing as security forces continue their efforts to locate any remaining terrorists and dismantle their support infrastructure in the region.
