Tucker Carlson Alleges CIA Accessed Messages, Attempted Framing as Foreign Agent
Former Fox News host Tucker Carlson publicly alleged that the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) accessed his electronic communications and attempted to frame him as a foreign agent. Carlson made these claims on his Fox News program, "Tucker Carlson Tonight," on Monday night, July 10, 2023.
Carlson stated that he learned of the alleged intelligence activity approximately six months prior to his on-air announcement, attributing the information to a whistleblower. He asserted that the alleged surveillance, which he described as the CIA "spying on my text messages and emails," occurred as he was preparing to interview Russian President Vladimir Putin. According to Carlson, the alleged intent behind this activity was to portray him as a "Russian agent."
Following his alleged discovery, Carlson indicated he sent an inquiry to the CIA. He reported receiving a call from the agency in response to his query. During this conversation, Carlson claimed the CIA neither confirmed nor denied his allegations, stating only that the information was "all news to them."
Carlson also stated that he had shared the details of his claims with Fox News' general counsel. In response to inquiries regarding Carlson's allegations, Fox News issued a statement saying, "We have no comment." The CIA, when approached for comment on Carlson's assertions, provided a public statement: "The CIA does not comment on false claims."
The allegations, which involve a prominent media figure claiming surveillance by a U.S. intelligence agency and an attempt to discredit him, have drawn significant public attention. Carlson’s departure from Fox News was announced in April 2023. As of the current reporting, no further official statements or independent investigations by government agencies regarding Carlson's specific claims have been publicly announced. The CIA's public statement regarding "false claims" indicates its official stance on the matter.
